It was in Saint-François, in a house overlooking the sea, that Roselyne Bandou welcomed me to tell me about her passion for sculpture. It's been fifteen years since she started, and she talks about it as if it were yesterday.

I've met people who describe to me how they felt when they saw one of my sculptures, and who had exactly the same emotions as I myself had felt when modelling it."

Fruit of a passion for the land

At first, Roselyne had planned to take up pottery. But it was at a dinner party, somewhat by chance, that she met the woman who inspired her to try her hand at the art of modeling. She began chatting with one of the guests, who went on to become a dear friend. As they chatted, they decided to sign up for a modeling class together.

From the very first session, Roselyne sensed that she couldn't simply reproduce the models on offer. She fell in love with the material and the sensations of clay. She soon decided to start at home. In her enthusiasm, she read up on the different types of clay and possible modelling techniques, and made numerous attempts to gain a better understanding of the material. And that's when her creativity exploded: Roselyne felt drawn to clay.
